Hey, I’m Sean Bagniewski. It’s been my honor to serve as the Representative for House District 35 in Northwest Des Moines since 2022. Like many of you, I want to restore some commonsense to our state and get Iowa growing again.

Meet Sean
I started out in a trailer park with a single mom. Because of the education I received in Iowa’s public schools, I was able to put myself through Drake Law School. At Drake, I passed my first bill - allowing abandoned teenagers to emancipate from their parents in 2008. I also clerked and worked for Governor Tom Vilsack. I’ve served as the president of the Beaverdale Neighborhood Association and chair of Des Moines Neighbors. As the chair for the Polk County Democrats, I was proud to revive the Steak Fry and build up neighborhood groups countywide.
I live with my wife, Lindsay, and our two sons, Teddy and Franklin, in the Beaverdale neighborhood of Des Moines. We spend most nights and weekends working on our perennial gardens and restoring our 1935 house.

Republicans have controlled our government for 10 years. They’ve made a lot of promises about businesses and people moving here if they could pass everything they wanted. They passed every major item on their list. And yet we’re now falling behind on nearly every measure.

Let’s Grow the Iowa We Can Be Proud Of
It’s not enough to just point out where we’ve fallen behind. We need to be ready to turn back harmful legislation, but we also need to propose reforms that will improve our state.
- Protect women’s reproductive rights
- Invest in our public schools, students, and teachers
- Restore union rights - the best guarantee of the middle class
- Reverse book bans that are outlawing American classics
- Invest in our infrastructure - roads, trails, bridges. and waterways
- Preserve our soil and water - some of the best in the world
- Protect your right to vote and reject extremism
- Reduce costs of living - daycare, healthcare, mortgages, and rent
